Royal Free Singers

Royal Free Singers

The Royal Free Singers is a community choir based in Windsor. We enjoy singing together and performing a wide range of exciting and uplifting music.

Our programmes are varied and often challenging. Previous concerts range from Bach to Rossini, from Russian masterpieces to Elgar, from Handel to contemporary composers – including the premier of a specially commissioned piece by our Patron, Jonathan Willcocks, The Song of Mary.

Our Musical Director is Ben Gunner, who set up the choir in 1973 when he was music teacher at the Royal Free Boys School in Windsor – hence our name. Since those small beginnings, we have grown to a choir of over 100 singers.

Our accompanist is John Chantrey, who has a lifetime experience of playing the piano and has supported RFS for many years – both in rehearsals and concerts.

We are also fortunate in having guest conductors and accompanists from time to time and our concerts are supported by professional soloists and musicians.
