Royal Free Singers

We invite you to Join us for Handel’s celebrated oratorio, one of the most popular, well loved and frequently performed choral works of the classical repertoire.

Messiah was first performed in Dublin in 1742 with an audience of 700 people.  It earned unanimous praise from the assembled press.  The year 1750 saw the institution of the annual charity performances of Messiah at London’s Foundling Hospital which continued until Handel’s death and beyond.  From there its fame spread quickly throughout Europe and continues to be enjoyed by so many today.

Part I deals with the foretelling of the Messiah, the birth and the life of Jesus; Part II with the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of Christ; and Part III with the promise of eternal life.
